Appearance: The fair looking Captain of the fourth division, Genichi Yamazaki, stands at six feet tall, being taller than the average Shinigami. Weighing approximately one hundred and eighty nine pounds of lean, solid muscle, Genichi keeps himself in tip top shape, being the face of health and fitness of Soul Society. Chiseled muscle adorn every inch of his body, displayed on his fairly tanned skin. Devilishly handsome, Genichi is very popular with the ladies, and men, with his gleaming yellow eyes and smooth face. His natural green hair makes it easy to identify him, since it makes him stand out like a sore thumb amongst a crowd, which he usually combs back and keeps it short, though it is a bit longer on the top. The natural green hair goes well with his rebellious attitude, having a pair of gauging earrings as well. The gauge size is eight millimeters in diameter, with a silver ring in the inside of his ear lobes.

Besides his good looks and unique bodily features, there is not much that stands out about Genichi’s appearance. He wears the standard Shinigami uniform with no alterations to it what so ever. Not even accessories are worn with his uniform, despite the ear gauges, being rather bland and boring. Most people expect him to have some alterations on his uniform, with his flashy physical features, but he has long since grown out of wearing anything that is not necessary, besides his ear gauges. Though he looks young for a Shinigami, barely looks past thirty, he is old and experienced many things. To top off the rest of Genichi’s attire is his Captain’s haori, which he wears with the utmost pride, like all Captains should. The haori is long sleeved and lined with yellow which actually compliment him quite well. His division number is stitched to the back, like all haori, and has a sort of design on the bottom border.



Personality: A once rebellious and reckless Shinigami, Genichi has grown into a very exemplary warrior. With the time and experience he has acquired throughout the many years of service, he takes his job seriously. Always putting everyone’s health before his own, one thinks he lives only to serve. His knowledge in the fields of medicine are tremendous, and as a doctor he spends a lot of his time studying new methods of healing, rightfully earning his status of Head Surgeon and the nickname Doctor. As the health adviser of the Seireitei, Genichi usually takes some time every day to do daily exercises, to maintain his condition. Always mentally and physically active, he is constantly brimming with energy to burn. As many know, the Fourth Division is tasked with not only healing those in need, but with restoring buildings and the general architecture of the Seireitei. One of the things Genichi enjoys the most is fixing things, be it living or inanimate objects, so when it comes to the secondary task of his division, he is a natural at construction work, and enjoys is very much.

With all the task that is usually thrown at Genichi’s general direction, he rarely has any free time for himself, but that just means he spends most of his time with his division members, growing rather attached to the majority of the members, unlike other Captains. The Fourth Division is the largest division of the Gotei Thirteen, and the division with the most seated members, thirteen. He is a very caring Shinigami, and values life more than anyone could imagine. This might even be bad in some situations, where he refuses to kill an opponent. He believes that everything that is alive should be respected, but if worst comes to worst, that doesn’t impede him from killing those that truly deserve to die. This also makes him extremely angry, having to do away with someone’s life, usually resulting to such extremes when the life of one of his subordinates is in jeopardy, reveling a rather gruesome side of Genichi.

Normally, the Captain is a clam individual that is caring and empathetic. Very rarely ever is in a foul mood, usually cheerful, social and enthusiastic. Not much fazes him, but when he has changed, it is easily noticed by others, especially when he is angry. When angered, he drastically changes, from the socially cheerful Captain, to a quiet, mysterious being with a cold look in his eyes. He tends to ignore many things when angered, and focuses on a sole objective, which is usually how he inflicts enormous amounts of pain onto an opponent, something he can do with ease, with his knowledge in medicine and all. Only time he reveals such heinous murderous intent is if someone dear to him has been deprived of their life. He does his best to try to maintain his posture no matter the situation, however, everyone has a breaking point and his is the life of his division members. Essentially, Genichi is a hardworking Captain that values life, cares for his members above the norm, constantly studying and training and can be emotionally read easily with a devilish murderous side that no one should provoke.  


Abilities:

Zanjutsu Master: With the many years that Genichi has spent as a member of the Gotei Thirteen, his skills in the basic Shinigami arts is what anyone expects of a veteran Captain. Dedicating many sleepless nights to his mastery of Zanjutsu, Genichi is a well-known master of the art, easily putting common swordsmen to shame with his magnificent skills. Though he dominates his sword flawlessly with his right hand, he can wield a sword in his left hand efficiently, if need be. Preferring to manipulate his Zanpakutō with only one hand, leaving his left hand free for whatever he may be needing it for, he can easily grasp it with both hands as well, delivering slower but more precise and stronger attacks by doing so, but he is more than capable of holding his own when he wields his Zanpakutō with one hand. Though his skills are not on par with the Grandmaster of Zanjutsu, they are highly praised and respected by Asura herself, being amongst the top eight greatest swordsmen in the Seireitei.

Kidō Master: Being the Head Surgeon of the Gotei Thirteen, Genichi is a very proficient Kidō user, since he had to master the art to be able to master Kaidō to the point that he is recognized as the best healer in Soul Society. His powers, when it comes to both Hadō and Bakudō are almost on par with Zeriada, the Grandmaster of Kidō, and the Kidō Corps Commander. Capable of casting a Kidō spell in a variety of ways, silently, with or without the incantation, reciting the incantation after the spell has been casted, and so on, Genichi is barely limited in this art, and by far is one of the four Shinigami arts he has mastered the most. Not much difference is noticed between his level of mastery in either Hadō or Bakudō, being equally capable of using them efficiently. In a full out Kidō match, Genichi is more than likely to shine, but there are still people better than him in the skill, though that is only but a handful of individuals.

Kaidō Grandmaster: Though Kaidō falls under Kidō as a subcategory, his ability with the technique is highly noticed and his rank as Grandmaster is well deserved. No matter how deep the wound, or how badly injured a patient may be, healing them is not beyond Genichi, and with enough time and effort he can heal nearly anything. He can go as far as reviving the dead, but only if he attends the wounds immediately, and he is rumored to begin healing people before killing them as a brutal way of torture. Genichi is no miracle maker however, and if a limb is removed and completely destroyed, there is no Kaidō spell that can restore the destroy limb. Despite falling under the category of Kidō, Kaidō has its differences, and even though one must gain knowledge in Kidō to be able to perform Kaidō, the mechanics behind Kaidō are different, and many people that can cast Kidō cannot successfully execute a Kaidō spell.

Hakuda Expert: As a Captain and a fairly old Shinigami, the Doctor has somewhat trained himself in the Shinigami art known as Hakuda. Capable of holding his own in a hand to hand combat with most opponents, Genichi is not glaringly bad at the skill, but he is no master. His hands are more for healing than delivering damage and thus, he has not dedicated much time into mastering the this particular Shinigami art, falling in the category of a Hakuda Expert. Though he is not a bare handed killing machine, he knows how to use his body to defend himself effectively, and with his knowledge of the human body, he knows where to attack to yield desired effects, be it damaging vital pressure points or stopping the flow of blood and reiatsu to certain parts of the body, with his speed and knowledge, he is a force that should not be taken lightly when unarmed.

Shunpo Expert: Not fully understanding the mechanics of Hohō, Genichi was only capable of mastering one of the skills of Hohō, Shunpo. His flash step is rather admirable, for someone that couldn’t get the rest of the Hohō techniques learned. With a single step he can reach a distance of nearly twenty feet, being able to keep it up after a handle full of steps performed in succession reaching great distances. Though better Shunpo practitioners can out run Genichi with their own flash steps, he is not left far behind. Despite his skills in Shunpo, Genichi has failed to learn any of the other Hohō techniques due to many reasons, but mainly lack of interest.

Immense Spiritual Power: As a Captain, it is expected that Genichi harbors an immense source of spiritual energy, which is completely true. A grand amount of energy is hosted into his body, like all Captains. With many years of practicing how to manipulate his Reiryoku efficiently, Genichi has managed to bend it to his will. He can do various things with his Reiryoku, like an energy slash attack that emerges from his sword, using it to defend against attacks, amongst other things, but he mainly uses his Reiryoku for medical needs, even in combat. Obviously, Genichi can exert his Reiatsu to overcome others with sheer pressure, and at its full extent it is more than capable of incapacitating weaker foes that barely reach the ranks of Vice Captain. When Genichi chooses to display his Reiatsu, it is a bright yellowish color.

Enhanced Strength: It is to no one’s surprise that Genichi is a physically powerful Shinigami, and that his strength is way above average. Though he is not amongst the physically strongest Captains, his strength is very noticeable, being able to fight with the strongest of them. He can cut clean through most mediocre armors, barriers and objects, being challenged by only very durable objects, but with time and solid persistence, he can eventually destroy most things that are in his way. His strength is evenly distributed throughout his body, with his constant training in keeping himself fit and lean. The only reason Genichi has not fully dedicated himself to becoming a physical power house is that he trained to become balance throughout all physical aspects he can, plus all the studying he does on medicine.

Enhanced Speed: The face of health and fitness of the Seireitei is obviously fast on his feet. With his many years of speed training, he can out pace most opponents and keep up with those that are relatively fast. It is a rare occasion when Genichi is left behind, but only the fastest of them can truly leave him in the dust. His natural speed has helped him with his studies of Shunpo, being incredibly fast even without the use of the skill. Besides running, he is fast at attacking and defending, having above average fighting reflexes, and the agility to do so. His strikes come fast and precise, along with his knowledge in the medical fields, they are deadly, being capable of disposing of most enemies easily.

Enhanced Durability: A lot of resistance training has been done making the Doctor one tough opponent to take down. He can withstand many powerful attacks, capable of shrugging them off with ease, even without the aid of Reiryoku. Though he is not terribly durable, his durability allows him to survive most devastating attacks that could take down the average Vice Captain. Something that aids Genichi with his rigid body is his Kaidō. With it he can heal himself in the heat of combat, though it is just basic first aid, stop the bleeding from wounds, healing some surface scratches and minor damage, since healing oneself is actually more difficult than healing others. He is far from invincible though, but as a Captain he can go through hell and come back victorious with his strong will power and medical knowledge.

Immense Stamina: With his vigorous training in strength, speed and durability, Genichi has way above the average stamina. He can go on for days without showing any signs of fatigue, being great for when he is training, studying or battling. To ever find the Captain physically tired is truly a rare occasion, since he is usually burning with energy and his lung capacity is unmatched within the Seireitei. Getting strained during battle is likely to never happen, in fact he might empty his Reiryoku source before he is ever overwhelmed by fatigue. It is rumored that Genichi has gone thirty days of none stop constant training, only stopping to eat and drink, which is a display of his monstrous stamina.

Medical Master: The Head Surgeon and Captain of the Fourth Division in the Seireitei, the division that specializes in healing, it is no surprise that Genichi is a Master at all things related to medicine. From basic first aid to complex surgeries, he can nearly heal anything, even without the aid of Kaidō. His knowledge on the subject is immense, allowing him to come up with remedies for all sorts of medical issues with great ease. He can make potions, pills, vials, all things of that sort, with the right materials of course, product of his many years of studying medicine. Mastering medicine, he can create drugs and poisons as easily as he can create a remedy to heal someone, and make it nearly impossible to detect. With the right tools, he can perform any type of operation with a one hundred percent success rate, in fact, he has never failed any of his surgical procedures. Simply branded as ‘Doctor’, Genichi is the Doctor of the Seireitei as it seems there is nothing he cannot heal.

Genius Intellect: One of the greatest minds amongst the Captains of the Gotei Thirteen, Genichi is an extremely intelligent Shinigami and is part of the top three genius Captains, the other two being Yoshirō Fujibayashi and Shijichi Nazare. Though he specializes in medicine and everything alike, he is ten times smarter than your average scholar. Mixed with his great annalistic skills, he is quick to notice things that are not obvious to the naked eye by even the minimal of details. Basic mind games and tricks are likely to fail against him, since he is too sharp to fall for petty tricks, but if the mind tricks are more advanced, he eventually catches on to it and find a way to counter act immediately. Matter of fact, Genichi enjoys mind games quite a lot, and finds joy in solving difficult brain teasers, which he does at least one a day to keep his mind on point. Though Genichi is not the type to think up battle strategies and tactics during times of war, he is capable of such, but focuses more on healing the wounded and thus his strategies for combat are usually thought up in the heat of battle, while he carefully analyzes his opponents and finds a way of disabling them, only going for the kill if absolutely necessary.
