Appearance: Shijichi Nazare, a slender man that is kept in impeccable physical condition despite his lack of physical activities. Spending the majority of his time in his laboratory, his skin is rather pale covered with multiple scars from various experiments that where conducted on his body; none of which are exposed. His hair is long and blonde, falling down to the center of his back. Barely tamed, his mane is slightly messy, but still retaining a je ne sais quoi to it. Complementing his blonde hair is his jade eyes, which has become one of his personal trademarks. His left eye is accessorized with a white gold monocle, which has a small chain the loops behind his ear. More than just a fashion statement, the monocle is one of the many devices Shijichi has invented to assist him with his research in various ways. He stands at the height of five feet and ten inches and weighs approximately two hundred pounds of lean muscles.

For his attire, Shijichi does not dress in the same robes as the majority of Shinigami’s, having a more western look. Black leather, laced shoes along with finely pressed black slacks, accompanied by a leather belt that has a white gold, standard buckle. A white, button down, dress shirt is neatly tucked into his pants. The shirt has a double ruffled cuff on each sleeve, giving it a unique design. Around his neck is a black satin puff tie made of the finest silk Soul Society has to offer. To top off his formal look, he wears a long sleeve, black blazer; said blazer is usually buttoned, which it only has two, and it is mid-thigh length. The Central Forty-Six does not approve of this apparel, but they long since gave up on trying to make him wear the standard Shinigami shihakushō. Now that he has become the Captain of the Twelfth Division, he forces everyone in the division to wear similar clothing, making it extremely easy to identify members of the Research & Development Institute. As Captain, Shijichi could not get away with not wearing the traditional Captain’s haori, luckily for him, he sees it as a regular lab coat. A carbon grey lining is used to distinguish his haori; no alterations or damage is done to it, being kept neat and clean at all times.



Personality: Entering the mind of a scientist is something that is nowhere near healthy or endorsed. Madness surely envelopes all those that dedicate their entire lives to research and development, in some way or another. Since a very young age, in the outskirts of the Rukongai, Shijichi has always been a curious soul. He yearned to understand everything, and pursued it with infinite passion that molds him into the genius he is today. Becoming obsess with unraveling the mysterious of the universe and dedicating the vast majority of his time to do so, has derailed him from sanity ages ago. Unraveling things to the core is his addiction, aside from coffee and cigarettes. He is always fascinated to know the full capability of things, breaking them down completely to later rebuild them; mechanical or biological. Never caring about morals or being politically correct when he satisfies his curiosity, as long as he gets his fix. Ambitious and driven by knowledge, nothing is safe whenever it has piqued his interest, which results in vile, sadistic experimentations that he so ever loves.

More than anyone else, he knows that his hobbies are shunned by society, but that does not stop him and he does not mask his true colors; his inner monster being known by everyone. Watching others squirm and cry out of pain while he does with them as he pleases brings him unexplainable joy while he feeds on his lust of knowledge and understanding. A twisted sadist that is essentially heartless and not emotionally attached to anything, which allows him to do what he wants without the slightest bit of remorse. Essentially, Shijichi is amoral. Not a believer in right or wrong, good or bad, despite he is very familiar with the concepts, he feels nothing. He does not view what he does as good or bad; he only aims for success and fulfillment. Such beliefs have many people question the reasons behind Shijichi’s captaincy.

He does not personally support the greater good or is in no way, shape or form interested in it. Glory plays part in his reasoning behind his captainship, but only slightly. Main factor is convenience. Being in a position of power grants him ease of access to work freely, and given his scientific practices, he needs all the leeway he can get. There is no righteousness behind his motives, and he sure as hell does not care about the balance of souls. He is a Captain because he can and it is in his best interest to be one; on the other hand, he could be on the top of the Gotei’s Thirteen criminal’s list. Most missions are viewed like chores, acting upon them in a robotic manner. Even though he prefers not to be summoned for missions and loathes doing them, his success rate is phenomenal; he would like to retain his statuses after all. At a young age, while his mind was still developing, Shijichi was abducted from the Rukongai and submitted into a heinous experiment conducted by Zen Shinodira; the first captain of the twelfth division.

These experimentations warped the young Genius’s mind and stripped him of any moral beliefs that were previously implanted. All memories of the experiments conducted on him are erased, or blacked out, while no records were kept, only a short file that says where Shijichi was for the early stages of his life. Spending many years at the mercy of Zen, Shijichi is an oddity, to say the least. He emerged a monster from the experimentations, but still remained in the guise of a normal soul. Though, all of the time spent with Zen is either forgotten or suppressed, what he learned during the time was not. His superior intellect and psychopathic tendencies are all thanks to Zen. There is more to Shijichi then his twisted and amoral ways however. Elegance and class are two words that define him perfectly. Just by judging him based on his attire, one can tell he enjoys the finer things of life. Highly sophisticated and is always presentable, he gives off a vibe of nobility, even though he is far, far, from it. Gracefully evil, if there is a Captain that would turn against the Gotei Thirteen, everyone’s money is on Shijichi Nazare; and the reason why he is always under a watchful eye.




Equipment:

Cerebrum Link: One of the most notoriously known inventions created by Shijichi, Cerebrum; the A.I., (Artificial Intelligence), system that is linked to the security systems of the Seireitei. All of the electronic devices used to monitor the streets of the Seireitei, the computers of every division, the grand majority of things in the Twelfth Division, Cerebrum is linked to them all. The only other person that has complete access to everything is Shijichi. By conducting several experiments on his own brain, Shijichi is in constant contact with Cerebrum. This allows the Genius to visually record everything he does and have access to all of the files stored in the Gotei’s Thirteen database. There is no piece of information that he cannot access, as long as it is in a digital form, he can always get his hands on it. Many times, when he is thought to be talking to himself, he is in fact having a conversation with the A.I. The only way information can be delivered to the captain is audibly. All visual information is projected through the monocle. Connected to this computer for many years, it is as if the captain has eidetic memory.

Monocle: The monocle worn on the left eye is not used for improving Shijichi’s sight, in the common sense. It is used to project images, be it pictures from the database or live feeds from the cameras. Capable of creating fully functional 3D images right before him, the monocle is the projector he uses whenever he has to explain something using images or digital models of places. The lens can do more than just project images. At will, the lens can do a thermal scan, night vision aid and zoom in to approximately half a kilometer. It is a state of the art ocular device after all, and these visual aid features where not difficult to install into the monocle.


Abilities:


Zanjutsu Master: Unusual for those of the Twelfth Division, Shijichi is remarkably skilled at swordsmanship. A master of Zanjutsu, to say the least. Fluidly and elegantly, he dances with his blade whenever he is to use it for battle. There is no preference in which hand he prefers to use when he is wielding his zanpakutō, being ambidextrous. His skills are not on par with Asura, but he does not fall far behind the other masters of Zanjutsu amongst the Gotei Thirteen. He prides himself in being as steady with his sword as The Surgeon is with a surgical knife. More than capable of performing any know zanjutsu technique, Shijichi has earned his title as a master of swordsmanship. There is one technique that he loves to employ in battle, a signature move so to say, one that many opponents try their best to avoid, Asahi.

• Asahi (Rising Sun): Gripping the weapon in a kendo stance, both hands firmly on the handle, serves as a warning to those familiar with Shijichi. His preference with a sword is wielding it single handedly, once he grips it with two hands, it is to end the battle with one final attack. In a quick thrust and slash the lives of many opponents has been claimed by this gruesome technique. First Shijichi stabs the sword between the targets legs. After, he swiftly turns and slashes upwards, bisecting the opponent in the process. He has become extremely skilled with the technique and favors it whenever he is in battle and the opportunity rises.

Hakuda Master: Many times Shijichi has found himself unarmed and in need to desperately defend himself; many times from experiments gone wrong and subjects breaking free. This has forced him to not only dabble in the arts of hand-to-hand combat, but to master it. Shijichi has learned many techniques that help knockout and subdue opponents. He doesn’t take a specific stance when fighting, not being defined under any known style; picking useful techniques from different styles. Naturally, Shijichi is a master at Hakuda. All known techniques can be performed by him with ease and precision, but he generally sticks to attacks that take out the enemy with little to no effort.  

Kidō Expert: All of the teachings of the academy have not been ignored by Shijichi, Kidō not being an exception. Though he has not mastered this technique like Hakuda and Zanjutsu, he has acquired enough skill to be considered an expert user of the art. Be it Hadō or Bakudō spells, he can perform them flawlessly and the power behind the spells are impressive, even though they are a far cry from Zeraida. Incantations are not required for him to cast any spell, but they greatly improve the power and effectiveness of them whenever it is used. He can even perform some basic Kaidō spells for quick first-aid needs when necessary. Underestimating the Genius’s capabilities with Kidō is a terrible mistake, but he usually relies on other mechanics when he is engaging in battle.  

Shunpo Expert: Speed and everything alike where never a main focus for Shijichi. Even though he barely put any effort in developing himself in this particular Shinigami art, he emerged skillful in Shunpo. He possess the basic attributes and ability in mastering Hohō, but his lack of interest has put an end to him perfecting any of the skills, only the bare minimum. Despite not being a master in Shunpo, he is not to be underestimated with the technique. A single flash step can reach distances of nearly twenty feet, capable of performing several burst consecutively before he has to stop for a short rest. Aside from his moderately good skills in Shunpo, when it comes to the other Hohō techniques, Shijichi understands them fully but never practiced them, making him incapable of performing any.

Immense Spiritual Pressure: Ever since the early stages of his life as a soul, Shijichi had an enormous reserve of spiritual power. This power was one of the reasons Zen took him under his wing. After many years of harnessing this power it can be compared to an ocean; vast and immense. With the full release of his reiatsu he can easily incapacitate the weakest of the vice-captains. The vibrant display of his spiritual pressure is in a light green color. He has learned everything there is to know about Reiryoku and reiatsu, which helps him manipulate it in many diverse ways. His many years of increasing his energy and studying it to fully understand it has made him adept at completely bending it to his will, having one of the best control amongst the Captains.

Enhanced Strength: Unlike most of the Captains that channel their Reiryoku to gain offensive strength, Shijichi has chosen a different path for his energy. Despite not focusing on increasing his strength to unimaginable levels, his physical strength is still something that is above the norm. His brute force may not be on the level of leveling cities or taking on an army all on his own, like the other monsters of the Gotei Thirteen, but he can still overpower others easily, his strength being greatly noted. He can cut clean through many durable objects like stone walls, kidō barriers, armors alike; cutting a soul in half is the equivalent of passing a knife through warm butter. In a struggle of power, Shijichi is not the type to come out victorious, but he won’t go down without a fight.

Pain Immunity: Shijichi was born with a rather strange ability when he was reincarnated as a soul. All of his pain receptors never functioned making him immune to feeling pain. This is both a gift and a curse to him. With the lack of functional pain receptors, every time damage is received Shijichi has no knowledge of it whatsoever. This immunity has brought him to the brink of death many times before. Now, he is more aware of what is going on with his body despite his lack of feeling pain; though Cerebrum plays a huge part with this. The computer is constantly monitoring his wellbeing and gives him updates whenever something crucial happens; from cuts and scratches to inhaling lethal poisons and fatal wounds.

Genius Intellect: It is without a doubt that Shijichi has a superior intellect when compared to anyone throughout all of the dimensions. Many believe that his genius is on a greater level than even Zen; given all of the contributions he has done for the Gotei Thirteen during his many years of service. His IQ is far superior to any of the current Captains and is only slighter greater than Genichi’s and Yoshirō’s. Deceiving him with mind games is more than likely to fail; out smarting him is an extremely difficult task rumored to be impossible. His level of intellect actually knows no limits while his annalistic capabilities are outstanding, even without the help of Cerebrum. Needless to say, in a battle of wits, Shijichi is confirmed to come out victorious, no matter who the opponent is. Always analyzing to better understand his current situation, with the added ability of quickly deducting the absolute best option, he has worked wonders in occasions that seemed he was doomed.

Master Inventor: Flourishing in many scientific fields, he is very creative and innovative. He has spent the vast majority of his life learning and understanding many things, that when he puts all of his theories to practice, he composes breath taking experiments; inventing advanced technology. Throughout his many years of successful experiments, he has created many objects that has been of use to the Shinigami’s. Weapons, medicines (with the help of Genichi), A.I., machines, virtually anything that involved some sort of mechanical science has been created or reinvented by him. One of his famously known inventions are the Gikon and Kaizō Konpaku; artificial souls and modified souls. Always having the gears of his brain in motion, Shijichi is constantly working on inventing new things and improving his creations.
